Physical Therapy At Dawn Therapists

Amy Fletcher, DPT, Cert. MDT

Amy brings to Albuquerque a broad experience with the variety that exists in the delivery of physical therapy. After achieving her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree, magna cum laude, from Creighton University in 2000, she provided care in Florida, Washington, and, for the last five years, in New Mexico. In her eight years of experience, Amy has cultivated a strong background in manual and mechanical therapy skills and effective interventions for the centralization of neck and back pain.

The McKenzie Institute USA conferred Cert.MDT credentials on Amy after she exhibited advanced and tested knowledge in the centralization of symptoms and directional preferences as used in the McKenzie Method. The value of this training goes beyond the treatment of patients to also quickly and reliably identify patients not likely to respond to mechanical therapy. The patients may then be directed towards more appropriate care. Amy begins advanced training this year in the McKenzie Institute International's Diploma program, which will culminate in a residency program in New Zealand and Dip.MDT credentials.

News Release (1/4/11): Amy Fletcher Awarded Advanced Certification from McKenzie Institute

We are pleased to announce that Amy Fletcher was recently awarded a Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Dip. MDT) by The McKenzie Institute International Board of Trustees.   The Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy signifies attainment of the highest level of achievement in the McKenzie Institute's Educational Programme.

The Diploma Curriculum is a post graduate programme that has as its foundation the teaching of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy as developed by Robin McKenzie. It enables clinicians to develop a high level of competency in the practical application of the McKenzie Method of Diagnosis and Therapy for mechanical spinal and other musculo-skeletal disorders.   Prior to being accepted into the Diploma programme, the practitioner must be certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert. MDT). The certification credentialing requires completion of five courses and a successful pass in the Certification Examination.

The Diploma Programme consists of Theoretical and Clinical Components. The Theoretical Component is conducted over one university semester and entails 300 hours of student work.   It is conducted by the School of Physiotherapy at the University of Otaga in Dunedin, New Zealand or the University of Dundee in Scotland.   The Clinical Component consists of 360 hours of clinical practice completed over nine weeks at one of the Institute's commissioned clinical venue sites. The final step to becoming a Diplomat is successful completion of a final examination conducted by a Panel of Examiners appointed by The McKenzie Institute International and supervised by the International Director of Education.

There are currently 336 Diplomates worldwide and 146 in the US.

Congratulations Amy on your achievement and attainment as a McKenzie MDT Diplomate.
